Description

European Heritage Days, September 19 and 20. During this season dedicated to history and the memory of stones, the Château de La Roche-Guyon will highlight, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, September 19 and 20, the role of the château and the village during the Second World War. While the château served as Field Marshal Rommel's headquarters in 1944, the village was also the scene of acts of resistance and courage embodied by local figures, including Justinien Blazy, director of the La Roche-Guyon hospital, recognized as "Righteous Among the Nations." This period will be explored through an artist residency, offering a perspective that is both historical and deeply human. In the underground tunnels, nestled in the cliff, "The Voices of the Casemates, 1944" (2026-2030), an immersive installation by the Franco-Polish artist Tomasz Namerla, will plunge visitors into the heart of the events that took place in La Roche-Guyon during the Second World War.
